Alphabet for Development & Education began as a group of professionals supporting children, families, and communities affected by conflict, first in Lebanon and inside Syria, where for years restrictions meant we often had to work quietly. In December 2025, we became a formally registered organization in Syria, allowing us to grow our work openly and across the country. Our team brings together long-standing experience in education and community support, giving us local credibility, a deep understanding of the context, and national reach. You can see some of our earlier work on our Lebanon-based website and Facebook page.

Since December 2024, increased repatriation has intensified pressures on already fragile communities. Many children have faced prolonged disruptions to education, both inside Syria and during displacement, returning at widely varying academic levels. At the same time, thousands of schools and homes have been damaged or destroyed, leaving communities without safe spaces for learning or return. These overlapping challenges demand coordinated, locally informed responses focused on recovery, stability, and educational reintegration.

Our work is grounded in sustained, on-the-ground engagement with the communities we serve. Team members have spent years living and working alongside families across Syria, building trust & maintaining continuous contact well before formal registration.
This long-term presence enables us to identify priorities through lived experience, not only external assessments. Programs are designed in close consultation with community members, ensuring interventions reflect actual needs and long-term aspirations rather than short-term or externally driven agendas.
